But this conversation goes far beyond fiction.

Claudia grew up in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, later worked as a television reporter covering military stories, and has supported organizations serving veterans. Her writing explores a provocative question: How differently would Americans think about war if every family had a real possibility of being asked to sacrifice?

In this episode, we dive into the return of the military draft, the divide between civilian America and those who serve, motherhood and activism, privilege, grief, sacrifice, patriotism, protest, the psychological impact of combat, veteran support, and the ripple effects of war on marriages, families, and communities.
