This shows is number one of five this week Live with Veterans as we lean into Veterans Day!
Oriana Franklin was in the United States Army from 2008-2011 stationed at Fort Bragg Nc in 525 Battle Field Surveillance Brigade property book specialist for brigade level. She deployed with 525 BFSB 2010-2011 to southern Afghanistan and was selected to be a part of the PSD (personal security detachment) and go outside the wire with a great group of combat arms soldiers. They were called the zombie response team. She was the only female on her team. Oriana was glad to be selected to drive on missions and combat support operations of my brigade. Her team was blown up by a 15-year-old suicide bomber and which resulted in a vehicle rollover and in turn, caused Oriana to be medivaced. She showed tenacity and started the process of recovering to drive with her team again but changed her perspective on life. After active duty, she was stationed in Conroe Texas in the reserves with a support unit where she encouraged others to do their best. During her time in the reserves, she started the process to get out of the Army. Starting in 2016 till the present time she has been an integral part of a nonprofit called The Mission Continues which helps transition veterans through community service. She has also become USDA urban farmer to build farms in food deserts in Houston.
