Should a veteran have to give away part of their VA back pay just to get help navigating a disability claim?
Cory Gold doesn’t think so.
In this clip from The MisFitNation Show, host Rich LaMonica and U.S. Army veteran Cory Gold talk about what they call the “sharks” in the veteran benefits space—companies that charge veterans significant fees or a percentage tied to their VA disability increase.
Cory makes an important distinction:
Not every paid professional is illegitimate.
Some veterans have complicated cases where an accredited attorney or claims agent may be appropriate.
But before signing a contract, veterans should know that free accredited help exists.
VA-accredited Veterans Service Organization representatives can assist veterans with benefit claims at no charge. Veterans can also verify whether an attorney, claims agent, or representative is accredited through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Cory’s message is simple:
Before you give anyone a percentage of money you earned through your service, find out what legitimate free options are available.
Worth Their Weight helps connect veterans with resources and appropriate support without charging the veteran.
If you’re filing a VA disability claim, appealing a decision, or trying to understand your benefits, slow down before signing anything.
Ask questions.
Check accreditation.
Understand the fee agreement.
And know what free assistance is already available.
