What does resilience really look like? And what does it take to rebuild your life after serving your country?
Susan L. Combs returns to The MisFitNation for a powerful conversation about her new book, Wonder Women: The Untold Stories of Female Veterans—a collection that gives female Veterans the opportunity to tell their stories in their own voices.
These stories take us from boot camp to deployments, West Point to 9/11 response sessions, caring for wounded civilians and comrades, middle-of-the-night missions, heartbreaking family goodbyes, and the difficult journey of coming home, coping, rebuilding, and healing.
And this reunion has special meaning.
Susan holds a unique place in The MisFitNation story: she joined us for our milestone 500th episode with her bestselling book Pancakes for Roger: A Mentorship Guide for Slaying Dragons.
That book grew from a deeply personal moment with her late father, Major General Roger E. Combs, whose simple request for pancakes became a reminder that life can change in an instant—and that even in the hardest moments, there is still something to be grateful for. Susan went on to turn that message into action through Pancakes for Roger, supporting Veterans through legal advocacy, scholarships, housing assistance, community partnerships, and direct Veteran and family support.
Now she’s back.
This time, we’re talking about the women who served, sacrificed, led, endured—and found the courage to build lives around what truly matters.
