Post-9/11 Veterans: Invisible Sacrifice, Forgotten Honor?

What happens when a generation of veterans comes home—but their sacrifice becomes harder for the public to see?

Retired U.S. Navy Chief Rob Diedrich reflects on post-9/11 veterans and why many can seem almost invisible after military service.

Unlike the image many people associate with earlier generations of veterans, today’s veterans may not always be visibly struggling. Some are working, raising families, going to school, and trying to build civilian lives while quietly dealing with transition challenges, addiction, mental health struggles, loss of purpose, or disconnection.

Rob’s point is not that one generation sacrificed more than another.

It is that service and sacrifice can become easier to overlook when the wounds are not obvious.

In this clip from The MisFitNation, Rob talks about veterans in both the United States and Canada, the challenges of transition after service, and why post-9/11 veterans still deserve recognition, support, and a place in the national conversation.
