Memorial Service for 1SG Harold "AJ" Murdock, ARMY (Ret.): A Tribute to a Distinguished Veteran

Join us for a heartfelt Celebration of Life service as we honor the legacy of 1SG Harold Jay "AJ" Murdock ARMY (Ret.), a remarkable individual who served his country with honor and dedication. Born on May 18, 1949, in Joliet, IL, to Aubrey and Mary Murdock, AJ's love for the outdoors, fishing, motorcycles, and golf, along with his infectious sense of humor, endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

AJ's distinguished military career culminated with his retirement from the Army as a First Sergeant of the 2nd BN, 502nd INF "Strike Force," having served valiantly during the Gulf War. His unwavering commitment and versatile roles, ranging from Team Leader to AS S-2 Intel Officer, are a testament to his leadership and expertise.

Notably, AJ's accolades include a Bronze Star with V Device and three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with two Numerals, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and numerous other honors recognizing his exceptional service. His accomplishments also extend to being named Drill Sergeant of the Year during the Army-wide Drill Sergeant competition.

Beyond his military achievements, AJ continued his service to the community as Commander of the American Legion and a lifelong member of the DAV. His contributions as Vice-President of the 101st Airborne Division Association and as a dedicated Board of Governor for the 327th /401st INF REGT further exemplify his commitment to his fellow veterans.

The live-streamed Memorial Service will take place on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM. Let us come together to pay our respects and commemorate the life of a true American hero.
