How do you stay focused when the pressure is high and there’s no easy way to step away?
US Navy veteran and former submariner Rob Robertson shares one of the most important lessons he learned from operating in high-stress environments:
Focus on what’s in front of you.
Don’t get trapped in every possible “what if.”
Don’t mentally jump ten steps ahead.
Control what you can control, stay focused on the mission, and handle the problem in front of you before moving to the next one.
Rob compares it to Apollo 13: there may be a thousand things that need to happen, but if you’re on step six, then step six is the job.
In this clip from The Toosday Crüe, Rob explains how that mindset helped him aboard a nuclear-powered attack submarine and later during real-world emergencies in civilian security work.
