His Parachute Failed—Then the VA System Failed Him for 4 Years | Cory Gold

Army veteran Cory Gold survived a parachute failure during Airborne School that left him with a broken back and traumatic brain injury—but one of the hardest parts of his story happened after he left the Army.

For FOUR YEARS, Cory lived with physical and psychological pain without knowing that VA benefits and veteran resources were available to help him.

Today, Cory is rated 100% disabled by the VA and is the founder of Worth Their Weight, an organization working to connect veterans with the benefits, resources, and accredited assistance they have already earned.

On this episode of The MisFitNation, host Rich LaMonica sits down with Cory for a raw conversation about military service, surviving a catastrophic airborne injury, traumatic brain injury, navigating the VA benefits system, veteran homelessness, nonprofit leadership, and the dangerous information gap that leaves too many veterans struggling alone.

Cory believes the traditional veteran-support system is too reactive: help often waits for veterans to know where to look and what questions to ask.

Worth Their Weight is working to change that.

Instead of waiting for veterans to come through the door, Cory and his team seek out veterans—including unsheltered and overlooked veterans—connect them with accredited assistance, and help them navigate the process.

And for the veteran?

The help is FREE.
