What happens when your only child gives everything for his country?
Denise Williams lived every parent’s nightmare when her son, PFC Andrew Meari, was killed in action in Kandahar, Afghanistan on November 1, 2010. But this story isn’t only about loss.
It is about courage.
Purpose.
Legacy.
Andrew dreamed of becoming a soldier at just four years old after witnessing the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Years later, while serving with the 101st Airborne Division (1/502nd) in Afghanistan, he sacrificed his life protecting his brothers during a devastating VBIED attack.
After his death, Denise transformed grief into service.
She returned to school, earned a Master’s in Clinical Psychology, and today serves veterans, first responders, and Gold Star families as a licensed counselor.
In this emotional episode of The MisFitNation, host Rich LaMonica sits down with Denise to discuss:
✅ Andrew’s life and legacy
✅ The day everything changed
✅ Life as a Gold Star Mother
✅ Healing after unimaginable loss
✅ Veteran mental health misconceptions
✅ The military-civilian divide
