What do you do with years you were never guaranteed?
On this episode of The Toosday Crüe, we welcome Gaylen Wilson, heart transplant survivor, 20-year sobriety veteran, Certified Thriving Relationship Coach, entrepreneur, and co-creator of The Monument Method.
Gaylen’s life hasn’t been one comeback.
It has been a lifetime of reinvention.
From growing up in a small Colorado town and becoming a farmer, to losing that life and rebuilding as a stockbroker… from alcoholism and recovery, to working as a traveling computer consultant… from becoming a Walmart cashier after 9/11 disrupted his career, to building a successful technology business from scratch…
Gaylen kept rebuilding.
Then everything changed again.
In 2014, a virus attacked his heart.
For the next three and a half years, Gaylen and his wife, Heather, lived through hospital stays, disability, financial pressure, uncertainty, fear, lost intimacy, and the growing reality that without a heart transplant, Gaylen was going to die.
On June 19, 2018, Gaylen told Heather he might only have months left to live.
About 30 minutes later, the transplant center called.
The next morning, Gaylen received a new heart.
But surviving wasn’t the end of his story.
It created a much bigger question:
What do you do with years you weren’t guaranteed?
That second chance eventually led Gaylen into two of the largest erectile dysfunction support communities on Facebook, where he spent roughly five and a half years helping approximately 60,000 men and their partners navigate erectile dysfunction, shame, anxiety, depression, masculinity, intimacy, isolation, and relationship breakdown.
What he discovered changed the direction of his life.
The strongest couples weren’t necessarily the ones who communicated perfectly.
They were the ones who created emotional safety.
Today, Gaylen and Heather are Certified Thriving Relationship Coaches and the creators of The Monument Method, an approach focused on helping couples strengthen relationships through emotional safety, conflict repair, personal responsibility, intimacy restoration, and what they call the Sanctuary Bond—the belief that your relationship should become a refuge from the chaos of the world, not another source of stress.
In this powerful conversation, we explore:
• Heart transplant survival and second chances
• Reinventing yourself after failure, loss, and identity collapse
• 20 years of sobriety and lessons from recovery
• Erectile dysfunction, shame, masculinity, and men’s mental health
• Marriage, intimacy, emotional safety, and conflict repair
• How couples can become a refuge for one another
• The Sanctuary Bond and The Monument Method
• Dating readiness and alternatives to hookup culture
• Resilience, purpose, and thriving after 50
• Faith, forgiveness, commitment, and covenant marriage
• Building a meaningful “third act” instead of retiring from life
This isn’t simply a conversation about survival.
It’s about what happens after you survive.
How do you rebuild when the identity you depended on disappears?
How do you protect a marriage when life becomes overwhelming?
How do men recover from shame without withdrawing from the people they love?
And when life gives you another chance… what are you going to do with it?
Join The Toosday Crüe for a conversation about resilience, sobriety, heart transplant recovery, men’s mental health, marriage, emotional intimacy, second chances, and building a life worth coming home to.
