Born and raised in Brunswick, Georgia, Jim graduated from Glynn Academy, attended North Georgia College, and became a proud member of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1957. He served five years on active duty and five more in the Naval Reserve as a submarine officer, before launching a 26-year career with Procter & Gamble in manufacturing management.
After retiring, Jim found new purpose leading marine conservation initiatives—eliminating destructive gillnets, building artificial reefs, and raising white seabass for ocean release. His leadership influenced key environmental legislation and earned him numerous awards in fishing and conservation.
Today, Jim lives near his hometown in Kingsland, Georgia, where his passion for writing, fishing, and community endures. His story reminds us that service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off—it just takes on a new form.
