He recounts the case of a military reserve doctor who, according to Arvis, was falsely accused of misconduct. Civilian authorities investigated the allegation, determined it was false, and prosecuted the accuser.

Arvis says the punishment?

Meanwhile, he says the accusation had already caused serious damage to the doctor's military career and contributed to his decision to resign his commission.

That leads to a larger question:

If a knowingly false allegation can permanently damage someone's career, reputation, and future, should the consequences for making that allegation be greater?

Protecting genuine victims matters.

So does protecting innocent people from deliberate false accusations.
