If your family could learn one emergency medical skill right now, what should it be?
Combat medic and Family Nurse Practitioner Patrick Thibeault doesn’t hesitate:
Learn proper tourniquet application.
When life-threatening bleeding happens, you may have only minutes to act — and simply owning a tourniquet isn’t enough.
Patrick’s advice: have an emergency tourniquet and a separate one to practice with so your family learns the skill before the crisis happens.
This is about building familiarity and muscle memory — not opening the package for the first time when someone you love is seriously injured.
